Is JCPENNEY CLOSING STORS? Eight stores allegedly are closing, including one in California

Several JCPENNEY stores are closed nationwide, including a place previously confirmed in the San Francisco Bay area.

Axios reported that the retailer closes the stores this year but it is “not related” to its Fusion with Sparc Group, A new company, Catalyst Brands, formed and was announced in early January. A spokesman for the company told Axios that “isolated closures” occur due to “expiry of lease agreements, market changes or other factors.”

It comes as other retailers are set to close locations over California including nine Macy’s stores and 10 Kohl’s stores.

There are more than 650 JCPENNEY stores across the US and Puerto Rico according to their Website. JCPENNEY has 63 stores in California according to ITS Store Locator.

Axios identified where a list of store closures could be found. Eight locations spaning Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Maryland, North Carolina, New Hampshire and West Virginia are closing.

The list also included a JCPENNEY store that closed in the stores of Tanforan in San Bruno, a city in the San Francisco Bay area. This location, 1122 El Camino Real, closes permanently on May 25, San Francisco Chronicle and NBC Bay Area reported in January.

Tanforan mall is Developed to a store/office campus with mixed use to biotechnology and tech tenants.
