Angels’ Anthony Rendon to have hip operation, Miss Extended Time

Often -injured Los Angeles Angels Third Baseman Anthony Rendon has hip surgery and is expected to miss a significant amount of time, said general manager Perry Minasian on Wednesday.

After signing a seven-year contract of $ 245 million and debut with the angels during the pandemic of the 2020 season, Rendon, 34, has played no more than 58 games in any season. He had a 1,010 ops with 34 home runs and a major-leading 126 RBIs with Washington Nationals in 2019, but his OPs over five years with the angels are just .717.

Rendon has only played in 205 games and missed 438 – with 12 stints on the wounded list – since the beginning of the 2021 season.

He had three stints on the wounded list in 2024 with hamstring, lower back and sloping problems, ending the season with a .218 batting average with zero home runs and 14 RBIs in 206 bats.

Rendon has hit .242 with 22 homes and 125 RBIs since he came to the angels. He fought .290 with 136 homers and 546 RBIs in seven seasons with Nationals.

His absence is clearing the way for free agent acquisition Yoan Moncada is the first day’s starting third Baseman. Moncada, a 29-year-old switch-hitter who signed a $ 5 million deal on Thursday, broke out in 2019 for Chicago White Sox, but cut .236/.291/.387, while playing only in 208 games in the last Three seasons.

Last year, for a White Sox team that lost a record 121 games, Moncada only played for 12, sitting out five months due to an adductor strain. He returned on September 18 and took a bat-bat before missing the rest of the season.
