Day 4 With Serious Weather Consciousness Double’s and Don’ts of Tornado Sheltering: The Alabama Weather Blog

The topic of day 6 of severe weather consciousness week is guidelines for tornado. Your best option will always be an underground FEMA -rated Tornado shelter. But realistically, not everyone can afford them. So your next best option, which is still a very reliable and safe option is basement. If there is no basement, a small window -free space on the lowest floor and in the interior of the building will also offer a safe shelter.

But there are also some places you don’t want to be. The poor options include large open rooms such as colleges or auditoriums with high ceilings as well as manufactured houses. But even worse, you will never be in a mobile house or vehicle or during a transition during a tornado. These are extremely dangerous and provide no protection. And of course you will never be caught outdoors without shelter at all.
