Chicago forecast: Winter Storm brings powerful snow to the area

Snow arrives at Chicagoland from 1 p.m. 11, with accumulation expected to spread in the metro area, as well as southern and western regions, at noon.

Periods of heavy snowfall can reduce visibility and create dangerous travel conditions.

A winter weather counseling will remain in effect until 1 p.m. 3 Thursday.

By the numbers:

Snow hotels remain on track with 3-6 inches possible. The best chance of 4-6 inches will be north of I-80, while areas to the south could see 2-4 inches. There is also a chance of light freezing drip tonight, especially southeast of I-57.

Travel will be slow this afternoon and evening, so it is important to allow extra distance between vehicles. The heaviest snowfall is expected until around 2 p.m. 18 before it starts to bottle.

Temperatures today reach the top 20s to low 30s with windbells in teens.

Around midnight, most areas will be dry, with only ease flurries possible into early Thursday.

Tomorrow it will be cold, with heights about 20 degrees and wind litter in the low single digits. Heaven will clear, which brings some sunshine.

Looking ahead:

Friday will mostly be cloudy with heights around 30. We have the chance that snow will return Friday afternoon to Sunday morning with the best chance that accumulation is on Saturday.

We keep an eye on the potential of some rainfall on Saturday to be in the form of rain, especially in the south. Heights on Saturday will be in the mid -30s with cloudy sky.

We have the chance that snow pushes into the early Sunday but will keep you up to date with the snow -total as the weekend gets closer. Sunday will be in the top teens (cold) with partially sunny sky.

The weather heading to start next week will be the cold.

Wind refrigerations Monday morning can approach 15 to 20 degrees below zero. Heights on Monday will be about 10-15 with partially sunny sky. We are watching the forecast for Monday for the potential for more snow.

The cold air at least seems to be Monday to Wednesday. Heights Tuesday and Wednesday appear to be in the middle to upper teens with partially sunny sky.
