Craftsmen in 49 states may want to think about filling supplies as fabric and craft chain Joann are preparing to close more than half of his American locations.

The dealer told USA Today in a statement on Wednesday that it would close “about 500” of its approx. 850 locations across the United States, where the news comes after the company filed a second time in less than a year in January after originally submission and then go privately in March 2024.

In his statement, Joann said it seems to “right size his store footprint.”

“This was a very difficult decision to make, given the greatest influence we know it will have on our team members, our customers and all the communities we serve,” Joann’s statement states. “A careful analysis of store performance and future strategic fit for the company determined which stores should remain as usual at this time.”

While the chain did not release an official list to the public, it presented the rankings intended for close to the court as part of Chapter 11 -Competition Process. Court Documents List 533 stores in 49 states on the chopping block.

According to court documents, the over 500 Joann stores that close are located in 49 states where the unequal state is Hawaii.

The states most affected by this initial wave of closures include California, Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, New York, Washington and Indiana.

According to court documents, Joann plans to close 61 stores in California, 36 in Florida, 33 in Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania, 26 in Illinois, 24 in New York, 21 in Washington, 20 in Indiana and 19 in Massachusetts.
