How to run in the rain

Here’s what Arizonans on the road need to know to stay in safety:

  1. Turn on your headlights: It is important for other drivers to see you. Even at noon, cloudy weather and rain could make your car less visible to someone else on the road.
  2. Go slowly: Adot advises to create a “space pillow” between you and the car in front of you.
  3. Do not brake suddenly: This can cause hydroplanation, which is “when a thin layer of water accumulates between your tires and the tarmac and your vehicle loses contact with the roadway,” as Adot described. When hydroplaning, your vehicle may start driving across the road. To regain control, turn your wheel with the object glass and go off the gas.
  4. Avoid puddles on the roadway: Try driving in middle lanes or while maintaining a safe distance, drive in the tires of the vehicle in front of you.
  5. Try not to drive behind large vehicles: The tires of these cars can spray on your windshield, which further reduces visibility.
  6. Make sure your windshield wipers are up to paR: Check if they work or whether they need replacement. You do not know how important it is for dirt and rainfall removed from your windshield until it rains.
