Nupa confirms two employees arrested by ice

Rochester, Minn. (KTTC) – Nupa confirmed Wednesday night In a Facebook post Two employees were arrested by ICE.

According to the restaurant, the two employees were brothers.

The restaurant claims the brothers “may have worked under false documentation.” The brothers were arrested in the parking lot.

The restaurant said the Civic Center Drive location will remain closed so far and South location works with full capacity.

Bigging deeper into the issue of immigration in the state, according to the 2019 data of the Migration Policy Institute, which identifies itself as an independent, non -party -spokesman think tank seeking to improve immigration and integration policies, Minnestoa has estimated 81,000 “unauthorized” persons. The Rochester Police Department (RPD) confirmed that it was made aware of ice operations in Rochester on Wednesday.

Several sources tell KTTC Local Restaurant, Nupa, a Greek and Mediterranean restaurant with two locations in the city, were influenced by the operations. The sources remained anonymous because they would keep their identity sealed.

KTTC visited Christ United Methodist Church, who works closely with immigrants in the community. The sources confirmed that they informed Christ United that ice operations were taking place at NUPA.

Executive Pastor Kirkland Reynolds said he is aware that these operations happened at Nupa; However, he does not have information about how many people were affected and whether this was the first case in Rochester.

“Like many people in Rochester, I still learn what the police have confirmed that there has been an ice attack in our society, and I hope, like many other people, to learn more about what has happened here.”

Nupa Posted on its Facebook page That their two branches will be closed on Wednesday. It said on his social media post that all catering will still be met.

KTTC has reached ice about today’s operations and has not yet heard back.

RPD declared that it was not part of the operations.
