Alexandrova Oust’s Pegula in Doha Quarters, expanding winning stripe to eight

Ekaterina Alexandrova expanded her winning row to eight matches and went on to her third career WTA 1000 semi-final after hit top form to defeat No. 6 Seed Jessica Pegula 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 in Qatar Totalenergies open quarterfinals.

Alexandrova, who lifted his fifth Hologic WTA Tour Trophy two weeks ago in Linz, has been responding to his career-best winning row. This is the third time she has put together eight equal wins at the tour level after her race in the fall of 2022 (Seoul title, Ostrava semi-final) and Summer 2023 (‘S-Hertogenbosch title, Berlin semi-final).

30-year-old two former WTA 1000 semi-final show came on Madrid 2022 and Miami 2024, and her performance in Doha in particular repeats the latter. In Miami last year, Alexandrova scored his first win over a reigning world # 1, which passed Iga Swatek in the fourth round, then backed it up with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 quarter-final defeat of Pegula.

This week she released the current world # 1 ARYNA SABALLENKA in the second round and has come from a reduced to beat Pegula in the last eight. Alexandrova now owns a 2-1 record against Pegula, including both of their hard court meetings, and the result is her eighth career top 5 win.
