Evacuations, flood warnings issued as the latest atmospheric river storm brings heavy rain to the Bay area

Heavy rain from the latest atmospheric river triggered flooding warnings for several Bay Area comments along with some evacuations in Santa Cruz County on Thursday.

National Weather Service issued a warning about flooding of flash for the San Francisco Peninsula, South Bay and Santa Cruz Mountain areas, specifically southeastern San Mateo County, West Central Santa Clara County and Western Santa Cruz County.

The warning was in effect until 1 p.m. 9:15

Among the places that could see flash flooding are Palo Alto, Santa Cruz, Cupertino, Saratoga, Los Gatos, Scotts Valley, Los Altos Hills, Woodside, Boulder Creek, Ben Lomond, Felton, Portola Valley, Monte Sereno, Lexington Hills, Santa Cruz, Watsonville, Capitola, Aptos and Soquel, according to Weather Service.

In Santa Cruz County, some residents of the Felton Grove were evacuated due to probably flooding along the San Lorenzo River, the Lensman’s Office said. A temporary evacuation point was created in the Scotts Valley Community Center.

In Ben Lomond, between 1 and 3 inches of rain have already fallen, and further rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is possible in the areas below the warning.
