Wed Jabeur chooses the American WTA star whose games’ really bother her after reaching the quarterfinals in Qatar

Wed Jabeur searches for his second career WTA 1000 Trophy at this year’s Qatar Open.

After struggling at times last year, Jabeur has had a strong start to his 2025 campaign.

After securing grafting victories over Ekaterina Alexandrova and Danielle Collins in warm -up tournaments before the Australian Open, the Tunisian went to Melbourne full of confidence.

She then achieved her best result at the event since 2021, when Jabeur lost against Emma Navarro in the third round, 4-6, 6-3, 4-6.

On the way to the Middle East, Jabeur was beaten by Elena Rybakina in the Abu Dhabi quarterfinals, 2-6, 6-4, 6-7.

She then made the 370-mile trip to Doha for the first WTA 1000 event of the year and immediately enjoyed real success.

After taking McCartney Kessler into the first round, Jabeur secured his highest ranked victory since 2023, when she beat China’s Qinwen Zheng in straight sets.

Jabeur, she played for a place in the Qatar Open quarterfinals, took an opponent she has been fighting recently.

Jabeur beat the Australian Open Champion Sofia Kenin in the last 16 of the Qatar Open, 6-3, 6-4, and gave his thoughts about the American after the match.

“She (Sofia Kenin) plays incredibly, and her games really bother me,” Jabeur said.

“So I’m very happy to get my revenge from last time, the last time was very close, so I hope to play better in the next round.”

Kenin beat Jabeur in their most recent meeting at The Italian Open last May in a three-set thriller, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4.

The 30-year-old then looked forward to her quarter-final match, where she will meet against another former major champion.

“She is (Jelena Ostapenko) who definitely comes for her revenge, she is a very tough player, she is incredible,” Jabeur said.

Jabeur’s last win over the Latvian star came just nine days ago in the opening round of the Abu Dhabi Open.

“It will be a battle full of energy and emotions, but certainly a great battle,” she said.

Jabeur then thanked the crowd that proudly supported the Tunisian star in Doha.

“They sang happy songs, so thank you,” she said.

“It’s a pleasure to be here and a pleasure to play in Qatar.

“As I always say, this tournament thinks of me, so I really put my heart on the field because I really want to win this one.”

Jabeur has now reached his third Qatar open quarterfinals after failing to reach the semi -finals in both 2020 and 2022.
