Mn Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan ‘intends’ to run for the US Senate

Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan intends to drive for the US Senate, but says she would make a formal message “later this month.”

This news comes the same day as US Senator Tina Smith said she would not apply for re -election in 2026.

In a statement on social media Thursday, Flanagan said:

“I love Minnesota and my intention is to drive for the US.

She also commented on Smith’s decision not to seek re -election and said “Smith has paved the way for so many women like me throughout her career. She uses her voice to violently defend the people of Minnesota. She has fought for small businesses, farmers and they , overlooked so they can get a fair shot on financial success.

“Sen. Smith is also an organizer in the heart. She knows that we all do better when everyone has space at the table. Thank you, Tina, for your leadership. I look forward to continuing our work together for Minnesotans,” added she.

Royce White Running for the Senate

Royce White, a Republican, SHelp, he also plans to run for the Senate again. He lost his bid on the Senate in 2024 to Amy Klobuchar.

Tina Smith is not looking for re -election in 2026

Back story:

US Senator Tina Smith announced on Thursday morning that she would not apply for re -election in 2026.

“This job has been a life. For the rest of my period, I work as hard as I can for Minnesotans and our country. Thank you very much, Minnesota,” she shared on social media.

In a video she shared (see it above), she said that after 20 years in the public sector she is ready to spend more time with her family. When she came to the Senate in 2018, she had no grandchildren and now she has four. Her family lives everyone in the Minneapolis area and she will spend time with them at home.

“This decision is not political. It’s completely personal,” Smith said.

Smith served as Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota before winning a special election in 2018 to fill the Al Fran’s Senate Seat. She was re -elected to the Senate in 2020.

During his time in the Senate, Smith has declared Her work on lowering prescription drug costs, adopting climate legislation and supporting rural areas.
