Detroit Lions hires new RBS trainer with ties to Jahmyr Gibbs, Shuffle -Stag

Allen Park – Detroit Lions are moving some pieces around their staff after landing a new running back coach with deep ties to Jahmyr Gibbs.

Tashar’s Choice takes over as the team’s running backs trainer per year. CBS SPORTS. And Detroit Free Press adds that assistant head coach Scottie Montgomery will switch to coaching the team’s broad recipients.

Montgomery maintains his assistant head coach title while filling the gap on the staff left by Antwaan Randle El, who followed Ben Johnson to join Chicago Bears.

It should be noted that coaching recipients are one of the areas of expertise in the new Lions offensive coordinator John Morton.

Montgomery coached recipients for Pittsburgh Steelers for two years and have also coached the position at university level while he was at Duke. He played the recipient in the NFL for three seasons for Denver Broncos in the early Augongs and was also a prominent pass-catcher for Blue Devils.

Choice is a former NFL running back that played six years in the league between Dallas Cowboys, Washington Commanders, Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts. The most important thing, though, is that he played college ball and later coached on Georgia Tech.

He was instrumental in recruiting Gibbs to Georgia Tech and was also Star Lions, who ran back’s position coach there.

When Mlive wrote about Gibbs ahead of the divisional round, it was the election name that continued to come up in conversations with Georgia Tech head coach Brent Key and Gibbs’ High School who ran back -coach Adam Martinez.

Both pointed to elections as someone who saw the vision when others did not with Gibbs. And they credited him with helping to put Gibbs on Georgia Tech’s radar before the ongoing backs career started.

“We are recruiting, and Tashar Choice, who was our running backs coach at the time, brought a guy to me,” Key told Mlive last month. “He’s like, ‘yo, key, this guy is up in your area.’ Tashar had a big eye for him and just fell in love with his style.

“And like no one recruited him at the time. Tashar did a hell of a job and recruited him … ”

Now he gets Coach Gibbs again. But this time, Running Back’s name is a little more popular after rushing after 1,400 plus rushing yards and leading NFL with 20 touchdowns. Choice also gets his mark on the NFL’s most productive one-to-stance, with David Montgomery and Gibbs, aka “Sonic and Knuckles.”

The lions were ninth in the league with a 4.7-yard per day. Bearing average, sixth with 2,488 gathering dangerous yards and second place with 29 rushing touchdowns.

One thing is for sure: Even with all the new faces and roles on the coaching staff, this team wants to run the ball. They have one of the best offensive lines in the game, Gibbs continues to get better, and Montgomery signed an expansion last season to keep the duo around for the future.

“(We are) definitely the best driving duo in the league,” Montgomery said last week. “But me and Jahmyr – that’s my dog. You have to be in a position in a mental headspace to be selfish enough to be appreciated by someone else’s success. I think many people forget that we are all competitors and we all want to play ball. We all want to be the guy, but sometimes you have to be selfish to the team’s greater benefit.

“So being able to be merged with any of Jahmyr’s size and being able to do it with him and do it together, I think, is super special. And when it’s all said and done when I and him finish playing together, we’ll be the best running duo to ever play together. “
