Trump -Education Nominated Linda McMahon says that closing Doe would ‘demand congression action’

Congress had to pass a law to shoot the Institute of Education (Doe) before it could be abolished, President Donald Trump’s nominees told the Department of Education (Doe) to a Senate Committee on Thursday.

Senator Bill Cassidy, R-LA., First, asked Linda McMahon if she agrees that Doe would need congressional approval to shut down completely.

McMahon replied, “Yes, it’s set up by the American Congress and we work with Congress. It clearly can’t be closed without it.”

Senator Susan Collins, R-Maine, asked McMahon about Main’s Trio programs, helping the first generation of university students from families without experience with higher education. Collins questioned how these programs could be maintained if the Institute of Education was “Abolish (ED)” or “significantly reorganized.”

“These different things, especially the trio program, both we agreed, were just affected by a terrible blow just by regulatory action, as some of the students who applied for, their applications were simply rejected because of distance in a form .

“If I am confirmed to be able to come in and evaluate programs, how they can have the best possible supervision, how we can really take the bureaucracy out of education,” she said.

McMahon, nominated to lead the education department, enters a role that Trump has suggested he seeks to eliminate. Trump recently stated that if McMahon is confirmed, he wants her to “get out of a job.”
