NASA says yes, an asteroid that buzzed in 2032 could hit the ground

NASA estimates that the asteroid measures between 130 feet and 300 feet across. In the unlikely case that it hit the Earth, the asteroid would probably “affect a high speed” of approx. 38,000 km / h, According to the Center for Near Earth Object Studies at NASAS Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

A space rock of that size would probably cause local damage, but does not threaten the whole planet or humanity, as may be the case if a much larger asteroid was on a collision course with the ground.

Asteroid 2024 YR4 was first detected by the asteroid terrestrial influence of the last alarm system station in Chile on December 27, 2024. Since then, researchers have studied Space Rock using terrestrial telescopes.

NASA said the asteroid will continue to be visible to terrestrial observatories through April. Then Space Rock will be too weak to look until around June 2028.

The Agency’s James Webb room telescope is training the eyes of the asteroid in March to better assess its size, according to NASA.
