The Nascar Cup Series drivers hit the 2.5 km long oval on Daytona International Speedway tonight for Daytona Duel-to 60-step, 150 mile races that set the starting lineup for Sunday’s Daytona 500.

The front row for the 67th annual Daytona 500 was put on Wednesday night in polar qualification, with Joe Gibbs Racings Chase Briscoe releasing the fastest time and Team Penske’s Austin Cindric, which took second place. These two drivers also start first tonight with Briscoe on the bar for duel # 1 and cindrric on the bar for duel # 2.

Daytona Duel Races finishing order determines the rest of the starting positions in the “big American race”, with drivers in duel # 1 who fill the interior lane to start Sunday’s race and drivers in duel # 2, taking starting places on the outside trajectory.

Duel Races will also give drivers their first taste of real racing this season, allowing teams to prepare the best setup for Sunday’s race.

Duel at Daytona # 1 is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. 19 et. Apart from delays, duel at Daytona # 2 must begin at 1 p.m. 20.45 ET.

The National Weather Service Calling mostly cloudy sky with temperatures in low to mid -70s Thursday night to start of duel # 1 before falling into the tall 60s for duel # 2. There is a Small option for showers and thunderstorms before 10 pm one, with odds of rainfall to 20%.

The Daytona duels consist of two 60-steps, 150 mile races that set positions third to 40. At the start network for Daytona 500-after the top-to-finishers in Wednesday’s night pole, who qualified, Locked Daytona 500 front row. The winners of the two Duel Races start on the second row of Sunday’s Daytona 500 (if they did not already land on the front row of pole qualification).

The drivers who finished first, third, fifth, etc., in Wednesday’s polar qualification run in duel # 1, while those who finished second, fourth, sixth, etc. Order from duel # 1 form the interior lane for the starting lineup of Daytona 500, starting with position # 3. The results of Duel No. 2 is the exterior lane of the starting grid.

The top finishers of both Daytona Duel Races also receive the NASCAR CUP SERIES regular season points.

Chase Briscoe announced the top time in Wednesday night’s Daytona 500-Polk Evalification, which guaranteed the pole position for both Daytona 500 and Duel No. 1. Austin Cindrric, posted the second fastest time in qualification and starts on the bar in Duel No. 2 and second in Daytona 500.
