At Trump Meet, PM’s Peace of Peace to Russia, Ukraine

Washington DC:

India is not neutral, was Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strong message of Russia-Ukraine war during a meeting with US President Donald Trump in the White House today. He reiterated that India stands with peace and valued Trump’s efforts to put an end to the war.

“India is not neutral. India is sitting with peace. I have already told President Putin that this is not the era of war. I support the efforts that President Trump has taken,” the prime minister said.

His remarks came a day after Trump held separate phone calls with Russia’s Vladimir Putin and Ukraine’s Volodymy Zelensky. His steps came as a shock to Ukraine and European allies, with many insisting that they and Kyiv should have a place at the negotiating table.

In their first confirmed contact since Trump’s return to the White House, the US president said he had had a “very productive” conversation with his Russian colleague, who ordered the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

On Thursday, Trump insisted that Ukraine would be “part of the” negotiations and that he was convinced that Putin “wants peace”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India have emphasized that this is “not an era of war, but of dialogue and diplomacy”. Since the Ukraine conflict began last February, Prime Minister Modi has spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin as well as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky several times.

He also met the two leaders separately last year.

PM Modi met US President Donald Trump and his close help and billionaire Elon Musk today. “He’s a big friend of me. For a long time we’ve had a wonderful relationship,” Trump said, greeting Prime Minister Modi in the Oval Office for a visit he promised would bring “some good” trade agreements.

Their meeting came hours after the US president announced mutual tariffs for all countries, including India. However, New Delhi hopes to avoid further charges, as Trump says is needed to counter the US trade deficit.

Prime Minister Modi is the fourth world leader who visits Trump since his return after the prime ministers in Israel and Japan and the Jordan king.
