The kayaker is swallowed by humpback whale from Chilean Coast: Watch

A humpback whale turned off a man on a kayak off the Chile coast last week before he was quickly able to get out of Leviatan’s mouth unscathed.

Video shows the deadly and scary moment from last Saturday when Adrián Simanca’s kayak with his father, Dell, in Bahía El Águila near San Isidro Lighthouse in the Magellan Strait, off Chilean Patagonia.

When Simanca’s paddled in what seemed to be an inflatable kayak, a humpback whale rolled on the surface with his mouth open and turned off the kayak.

Moments later, the tail cracked the surface and whale pigeon to deeper depth. Simancas and his yellow kayak then reappeared after being released from the clutches in the whale’s jaws.

Associated Press reported that Dell caught the moment on video and urged his son to stay calm.

“Stay calm, stay calm,” the father was heard and said in Spanish after his son was released from the whale.

“I thought I was dead,” Adrián said. “I thought it had eaten me that it had swallowed me.”

He described the few seconds of “terror” to the Three Service and explained that his real fears were put in after resuscitation, fearing that the whale would hurt his father or that he would die in the cold waters.

“When I got up and started flowing, I was afraid that something could happen to my dad that we would not reach the coast in time or that I would have hypothermia,” Adrian said.

Adrián eventually reached his father’s kayak and both returned to land without injuries.
