Fans respond to McDonald’s launch of ‘Grimace’ Tumblers exclusively in Australia

McDonald’s triggered a mixture of excitement and frustration this week after revealing ‘Grimace’ tumblers with limited edition-only available in Australia.

The purple-yellow isolated cups, designed according to the McDonaldland character, were announced on February 12 as part of a charity campaign. While Australian customers can get the collection objects, international fans lamented their exclusion.

Social media broke out after McDonald’s Australia shared a teaser video titled “You can’t spell cupid without cup” On February 12, 2025.

“Not in the US! Why tease us! “An Instagram user commented.

Several people also pointed out the irony of McDonald’s strong promotion of an item online that is not available to a large part of its customer base.

“Shame you! Stop getting things to become viral that are not available in the US! What’s good for a country is good nuff for the basic country! Poor decision,” Tweeted a frustrated fan.

“So rude that these are not in the United States,” commented an Instagram user.

‘Grimace’ tumblers with limited edition: What to know

‘Grimace’ tumblers were officially announced by McDonald’s Australia on February 12 after a week’s teasers in their social media accounts. The stainless steel, double wall vacuum -insulated tumbler holds 1.18 liters and is designed to keep drinks cold for up to 24 hours or warm for up to six hours.

The item is priced at $ 21.95 AUD, where all profits go to Ronald McDonald House Charities Australia. The tumblers are available for a limited period of participating McDonald’s locations in Australia and can be purchased in the store or through McDDeby via the MyMaccas app. Due to limited stock, once sold out, they will not be rebuilt.

Will ‘Grimace’ Tumblers be released globally?

Currently, McDonald’s has not announced any plans to expand the availability of ‘grimace’ tumblers beyond Australia. However, given the overwhelming demand and international reactions, it is left to see if the fast food chain will consider.

For the time being, they will have to admire the tumbler far away – or hope that McDonald’s decides to bring it to more rankings in the future.

Wider context: Nostalgia meets charity

The tumblers ‘Grimace’ follow McDonald’s story of utilizing nostalgia through merchandise with limited edition. Previous releases include Retro -Thema Happy Meal Toys and adult -friendly collectibles such as 2022 “McDonald’s X Travis Scott” collaboration. However, this marks Grimasa’s first free product tied to charity.

McDonald’s has not clarified why ‘Grimace’ tumblers are Australia-exclusive. Similar regional launches, such as Japan’s Pokémon theme thing or Germany’s MRIR traditions, often operate tourism or sales of secondary market. Currently, ‘Grimace’ tumblers a polarizing topic: A victory for Australian collectors, but an unanswered connection to fans around the world.
