Davis Thompson holds big names on PGA Tours Genesis

San Diego – Davis Thompson closed a roller coaster with a back nine at Torrey Pines with a birdie to take the lead on Friday in Genesis Invitational. Scottie Scheffler had an unusually wild day from the tee and was right on the heels.

It set out for a convincing weekend in this signature event of $ 20 million with two names jumping out of the pages of the Leaderboard-Scheffler, BogEy-Free plays despite beach two weeks ago.

Thompson only made two pairs on the back nine and ended with a wedge to a foot for Birdie and a 6-Under 66, good for a one-shot lead over Scheffler.

“We’re halfway through, still a lot of golf back,” Thompson said. “Yes, just trying to stay in my own lane.”

Scheffler, whose start of the year was delayed due to a hand injury, seems to be comforting his game, although it didn’t always look like that in much more comfortable weather along pacific bluffs.

He hit twice on the 12th tee. The first was a 50-yard chip shot back to the 11th green for a remarkable couple saving his tee shot on par 3 was so far to the left that it twice jumped on the wagon path before he sat close A water station that he got free relief.

He had a shot right to a bunker entitled to the fourth fairway and had to flex his right leg to prevent falling into the sand. He managed another couple there. The seventh, after another Miss well to the left, he had to kick his right leg on the follow -up to muscle it out of rough. They found the green for a simple pair.

He also caught a bunker shot for Eagle on par-5 sixth and converted three other birdies to a round of 67 that put him in the final group.

“I love to see it,” Scheffler said of his ability to score on a day when his ball striking was not entirely up to standard. “I feel like the short little Touche shots are always the ones who are the last to come back after a longer layover. It’s great to get these feelings back.”

Then he went to the range of a quick session with his driver.

Thompson, who won for the first time last year at the John Deere Classic, was at 8-under 136 and will play in the last group on Saturday with Scheffler.

Denny McCarthy Birds the last hole for a 70 and will be paired with McIlroy.

McIlroy rose on the leaderboard by going 5 below its opening 10 holes until they ran into a few problems from tee on holes where it’s hard to recover. He gathered with a couple of birdies, but his regret played the par 5s with only one birdie.

“I hit a lot of really good shots. I played mostly well. I shrank well,” said McIlroy, if 67 only left him three shots. “I just didn’t use the pairs 5s”

The signature events that host a player tiger Woods on Genesis Invitational, although he is not playing this week-has a 36-hole cut of the top 50 and tape. Among those who left early was Sepp Straka, who won in California desert and led the FedEx Cup, and Jordan Spieth, who came from Slips for the Fourth in the Phoenix Open last week.

Max Homa, who has not reached the clip, was Max Homa, who has not reached it for the weekend in the three events he has played this year with a 36-hole cut.

Scheffler was not the only player who leaned hard on his short game. Thompson stood up and down for pairs on the 10th hole. He tiled in for Birdie on the next two holes, recovered the lead with a birdie on par-5 13. And then struck the next two holes.

But his 25-foot Birdie-Putt on par-3 16. got him back on track and he had the advantage of being in the first clip on 18. To help remove some spin from a wedge he hit tap -in series.

Among these hunts is Ludvig Åberg, who was eager to get back to Torrey Pines. He shot 66 to get within four shots from the lead on a fleshy course he loves. Aberg got an ugly stomach virus, which he tried to play through three weeks ago, and that made him withdraw on Pebble Beach after the opening round.

Aberg was at 140 with Patrick Rodgers who had a 71.
