College Park, MD – No. 6 Maryland (2-0) welcomes No. 2 Syracuse (3-0) to Secu Stadium for a top-10 clash on Saturday 15 February at. 14.00.

This year marks the 100th season of Maryland Men’s Lacrosse. The program has produced 525 All-American, 29 Final Fours and Four NCAA National Championships. The Terp’s are noteworthy also completed .500 or better in each season.

100. Season of Maryland Men’s Lacrosse

  • The Terps can boast of a record of all the time 895-290-4 (.754), dating back to the first Varsity team in 1924 (a team did not become field in 1944 and 1945 due to World War 2)) . Maryland has finished with a .500 or better record in all previous 99 seasons. The program reached the 800-win milestone with a 12-6 win on April 12, 2017 in Albany.
  • Maryland ended the decade of the 2010s 134-42 for a .761 winning percentage, making it the winning decade in Terrapin Lacrosse history. Nine of these seasons came under the leadership of head coach John TillmanThere has been a 122-38 record and a .763 winning percentage at the helm of Maryland.
  • During the decade of the 2000s, Maryland went 111-49 for a .694 victory percentage. In the decade of the 1990s, Maryland published a record of 95-47. The .669 winning percentage matched Maryland’s victory percentage of the 1980s when Terps went 83-41 and also prepared a .669 victory percentage.

Series history

  • Maryland has won 13 of 19 meetings against orange, including each of the last five. This is just the sixth meeting in the regular season between the two national powers since the NCAA era began in 1971, although the teams have now met each of the last three seasons.
  • Terps won on Syracuse last season as George Stamos Scored the winner of overtime to secure the 13-12 victory.

Where we’ve been …

  • Terrapins come from their NCAA-best 21. The Terps returned to the NCAA Championship Game for the eighth time in 13 tournaments and 17 time in program history. Maryland (11-6) won double-digit games for the 21st year in a row, the longest active line in the NCAA Division I-men’s Lacrosse.
  • Maryland started off a strong start in 2025, when Terps topped No. 18 Richmond 12-7 in their season opener. The Terps closes the spiders in the first half, 7-0, and marked the first, first half shutout for the team since 2015. Logan McNaney made 14 savings in the cage while Binghamton is transferred Matthew Keegan led the road with five points (3G-2A).
  • The Terps distinguished themselves defensively in Loyola and got away with an 8-7 overtime victory. Led by four goals from Eric Spanosthree of which came in the fourth quarter, Terps deleted a three-target deficit in the final frame. Loyola sent the game to overtime with 2.2 seconds left but Shea Keethler Gave Terp’s possession of overtime to create a game winner from Keegan.
  • Syracuse, a quarter finalist in 2024, is 3-0 this season with a combined score of 55-17.

Maryland defense distinguished itself against the spiders and held them with no goals for the first 31:03 of the game.

Lockdown defense

  • The terps have been excellent defensively in each of its two matches in the 2025 campaign and holding its opponents to only seven goals in both matches. This is the first time Maryland has had an opponent for seven goals or less in back-to-back games since May 7 and May 15 of the 2022 season (Rutgers & Vermont).
  • In addition, Terps has not yet been handed over a goal in a first quarter this season, the first time achieved in back-to-back games since the 2015 season when Terps held Robert Morris (March 29) and Michigan (April 4 ) Scoreless in the first quarter.
  • Maryland’s scoring defense of 7.00 is tied to the seventh best brand in the nation and is tied to the fifth best among teams that have played several matches so far.

The TERPs have allowed seven goals or less in back-to-back games for the first time since May 2022.

FACEOFF UNIT SUCCESS

  • With the program’s All-Time Winningest Faceoff Specialist who is trained in Luke WiermanTerps has been very dependent on senior Shea Keethler and Sophomore Sean Creter So far in 2025.
  • The two have been unusual and are a combined 24/37 (.649) from Faceoff X. As a team is Terps 26/14, tied to the third best brand in the nation.
    Keenthler is 14/18 (.657) individually, which is the leading brand in the nation among eligible players.

McNaney on the career diagrams

  • With his first rescue at Loyola on February 8 Logan McNaney Officially darkened the 600 career rescue brand and just became the fourth Terp ever to do so. McNaney is now sitting on 609 savings for his career, 16 saves behind Niko Amato (625).
