One of the marquee games in college basketball Wednesday night is No. 4/5 Marquette in no. 5/6 Iowa State.

But apparently ESPN doesn’t think it deserves that kind of spotlight.

The top game in the Big East/Big 12 challenge can be seen only on ESPN’s streaming service, ESPN+. It is Marquette’s only appearance on the platform this basketball season. Subscriptions start at $11.99 per month. The network offers a promotion if you buy a 12-month subscription.

Why did the game at the Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa pull the streaming-only straw? The cable giant predictably gives top billing to the ACC/SEC Challenge, where no. 2 Auburn plays at no. 8 Duke and no. 10 Alabama, visiting No. 20 in North Carolina.

This is the first of two games Marquette will play against ranked teams this week. The Golden Eagles host the No. 11 Wisconsin at the Fiserv Forum on Saturday. The matchup with the Cyclones adds to Marquette’s already challenging schedule. The undefeated Golden Eagles have wins over Maryland, No. 8 Purdue and Georgia.

Like Marquette, Iowa State has been tested this season. The Cyclones lost to the no. 2 Auburn in Maui and beat Dayton and Colorado. They have been in the top 10 since the start of the season.

Cyclones coach TJ Otzelberger, a graduate of Thomas More High School, is 48-8 at home in his four seasons in Ames. The Cyclones are undefeated in the Big East/Big 12 Challenge in four games.
