Dolly Parton Announces Open Casting Search for New Broadway Musical

The hunt for Dolly has begun!

Dolly: An original musical has launched a nationwide casting search, Dolly Parton announced Thursday, Dec. 5, along with her manager Danny Nozell and ATG Productions. The Broadway Show – Originally Titled Hi, I’m Dolly – will capture moments from the iconic singer’s life and career.

In a video posted to TikTok, Instagram and YouTube announced the Parton casting call and explained the audition process while clips from every stage of her storied career played.

“I want to give you the chance to help me bring my story to Broadway—and maybe even play me!” Parton said, encouraging everyone to try the option.

“This show is a celebration of my music, my life and all the amazing people who have been with me along the way,” she continued. “We’re looking for talented performers who can capture the spirit of my journey, whether you’re a seasoned theater professional or an undiscovered gem with that little something special.”

The musical is looking for “performers of all ages to portray Parton at various stages of her incredible life,” read a press release from the show.

To audition, applicants must record a one-minute video singing their favorite Parton song and post it on social media with the tag #SearchForDolly. Applicants must also complete application form on the musical’s website.

The application window closes on 12 January 2025 at 11:59 PM ET, and Dolly: An original musical casting team will review the submissions. The show will then invite all promising applicants to New York City for a formal audition process.

A Broadway production telling her life story has been Parton’s dream, she told PEOPLE in January.

“Right now I’m working on my life story as a musical, and then going on Broadway and opening my show on Broadway, that’s been a biggie (goal) in my mind for many, many years,” she told PEOPLE. “That would be the one I want to make sure I finish while I’m still kicking, while I’m around to be involved in it.”

The musical’s score will feature both classic Parton songs and new numbers she wrote specifically for the show. Parton and Maria S. Schlatter wrote the play’s book, and Tony Award-winning Bartlett Sher will direct the show. Jim Carnahan and Carrie Gardner will be the musical’s casting directors.

“So, what are you waiting for? This might be your moment to take the stage and step into the spotlight,” Parton said with a big smile, adding, “Break a leg!”
