Jerry Jones on McCarthy, Zimmer and Micah contracts; Cowboys outlook for 2025

On a timeline of a McCarthy decision:

“I’m going to follow the kind of time frame that I’ve done in the past. So the way it’s played out in the past is going to be a time frame, and I can tell you that the past is not necessarily consistent in terms of a time frame. … With danger of talking about something that I don’t want to talk about at this time, but we have a lot of work to do, but we’re certainly all looking for ways to improve.

“… That’s what the next few days and weeks or so now, based on everything that’s happened this year and everything that’s happened over the last four years, because they’re not really that different than any time we’ve had a The year that’s over, I’ve had coaches under contract that I thought we might consider changing and they might be thinking about a contract change, so this business of under or out of contract is not an influencer at all.

If the timeline might reflect the Jason Garrett divorce:

“Well, two things happened there. We loved working with Jason, so (it) was tough. I had actually worked with him for almost 15, 20 years. I had never not wrote a check to a Garrett since I owned the Cowboys, ever.

“There was always a Garrett at the end of a check at least out there. So it was hard to do from a ratio standpoint. And so that gives you an idea, but the process involved a lot of work, a lot of time, a lot of expense – looking at opportunities to hear people’s perspective, I will be visiting coaches and players ad nauseam over the next (several) days.”

On the status of Mike Zimmer:

“Well, me being me, I’ve only been thinking about whether I want him to keep coaching the Cowboys, and not what he’s thinking now. He’s going to have something to say about that, right?”

If he regrets not putting a better roster on the field for McCarthy:
