Report: David Shaw to interview for New Orleans Saints head coaching job

Previous Stanford head coach David Shaw will reportedly interview for New Orleans Saints head coaching job, according to NFL Network’s Jane Slater.

Two informed sources tell me the Saints will interview David Shaw for their HC position.” Slater wrote on Twitter. “Shaw is currently a senior personnel executive for the Denver Broncos. Shaw was the HC at Stanford for 12 years and coached QBs like Andrew Lucke and Davis Mills. He also has an extensive background in the NFL as Asst HC with the Eagles, Ravens and Raiders.”

Currently, Shaw works as the personnel manager for the Denver Broncos, who just clinched the final Wild Card spot in the AFC playoffs. Shaw last coached in 2022 at Stanford, where he spent 12 seasons as head coach after working under Jim Harbaugh at the school.

In 12 seasons, he went 96-54 with the Cardinal, but went 14-28 in his final four seasons. Shaw won three Pac-12 titles and two Rose Bowls during his time at Stanford.

He also has NFL coaching experience. He coached for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1997, the Oakland Raiders from 1998-2000 and the Baltimore Ravens from 2002-05, all in assistant roles, before returning to the college game.

A four-time Pac-12 coach of the year, Shaw has never been a head coach at the professional level and would certainly be an interesting hire for the Saints.

After helping to develop Luck, Mills and Tanner McKeeShaw has a remarkable resume of winning and QB development.

However, Shaw is not the only one on the list. New Orleans reportedly has interest in Kansas City Chiefs OC Matt Nagy.

Nagy, who is in the middle of his second stint as the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator, was previously the head coach of the Chicago Bears. Saints fired head coach Dennis Allen mid-season and handed the keys to interim head coach Darren Rizzi.

Nagy went 34-31 in four seasons as the Bears’ head coach. In his first season (2018), Nagy led the Bears to a 12-4 record and the NFC North title, but lost at home in the Wild Card round to the Philadelphia Eagles.
