Villagers ‘stranded’ as village cut off by floods

“We can’t get in or out of our home – we’re totally stranded,” she said.

“We are still waiting for sandbags.

“Also, all our power is out and we have about four or five inches of water in the house.

“The minute I open the front door, the water just pours in. We don’t have any sandbags, so I’m actually stranded in my house upstairs at the moment.”

In a social media post, Wolston Parish Council pleaded with people with extra blankets and warm clothes to bring them to the local Baptist church.

It said some residents were evacuated from their homes by boat.

On Friday, a year after the 2024 flood, locals said they feared they would be hit again during stormy weather.

The village was cut off and thousands of pounds of damage was caused in the first flood seen in the village for 20 years.

Mrs Dobson said: “We have to learn lessons.

“We were the ones who knew it was happening – nobody warned us – we warned each other.”
