De Vrij: ‘Inter want to prove’ themselves after Milan defeat

Stefan de Vrij insists Inter will ‘prove we’ve improved’ since their Derby della Madonnina defeat to Milan as they get a replay in tonight’s Supercoppa Italiana final.

It starts at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh at 19:00 GMT.

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens on the Liveblog.

If they are still level after 90 minutes, it will go straight to penalties, so there will be no extra time in this Final Four format.

De Vrij has extra Inter motivation

“We are focusing on what we have to do and we feel ready for this big final,” De Vrij told Sport Mediaset.

Inter are trying to make history as the first ever club to win the Supercoppa Italiana for four consecutive years, which is just one of the reasons why they are considered the favorites going in.

De Vrij was asked if that status adds extra pressure or mainly just makes the Nerazzurri proud?

“Being considered the favorites is something outside our dressing room, we don’t think about that kind of thing. We are fired up and can’t wait to play this game.”

The season’s only Serie A defeat so far has been against Milan and fell 2-1 back in September 2024which ended a run of six consecutive Inter victories in the Derby della Madonnina.

“We had a poor performance against Milan in September and they deserved to win, so tonight we want to prove that we have improved since the start of the season.”
