Trump takes office – NBC New York

Congress is scheduled to convene on Monday to confirm President-elect Donald Trump’s victory in 2024, exactly four years after he incited a mob that attacked the Capitol in an unsuccessful attempt to disrupt the certification of his 2020 election loss and keep him in power. This certification is expected to be met with much less drama than last time.

Trump will be inaugurated on a federal holiday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 20, 2025.

The vice president-elect is sworn in first, repeating the same oath of office used since 1884 as senators, representatives, and other federal employees:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I undertake this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose with evasion, and that I will well and faithfully perform the duties of the office which I am about to enter upon: So help me God.”

Later, the president-elect recites the following oath in accordance with Article II, Section I of the United States Constitution:

“I swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of the President of the United States and will to the best of my ability preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

How to get tickets to the presidential inauguration?

The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies makes a limited number of Inauguration tickets available to the public through members of Congress.
