Koby Brea doubtful to play at Kentucky vs Georgia; De’Shayne Montgomery likely

The Kentucky Wildcats backcourt is already without Kerr Kriisa for the foreseeable future. Could it be without Koby Brea when the Cats face off Georgia Bulldogs on Tuesday?

On the SEC availability reportBrea is listed as questionable to play in Athens, while Georgia standout guard De’Shayne Montgomery is likely to play. Montgomery is averaging 13.5 points (56.8% shooting), 2.5 steals, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.

It’s unclear what type of injury/illness Brea could be dealing with, but this would be a big loss for a Kentucky team fresh off a top-10 win over Florida due to their 3-point sharpshooting.

In the 106-100 win in Lexington, Brea scored a career-high 23 points and drained a career-best seven 3s, the second-most against a top-10 opponent in program history. That helped him earn Co-SEC Player of the Week honors.

Brea has been a big offensive spark off the bench for Kentucky this season, so not having him would be a big blow on the offensive end. Kentucky was able to win at Gonzaga earlier this season despite Brea being held to five points on 2/9 shooting, but just his presence on the floor opens things up.

Kentucky certainly hopes that the No. 4 can push through this and play Tuesday night in the first SEC road game of the season.
