As a winter storm reaches the Tri-State area, here’s how much snow could fall Monday

NEW YORK — Since the cold air is not going anywhere soon, the groundwork has been laid our next winter storm to move into the Tri-State area.

Sunday was very similar to Saturday, with slightly less clouds and wind. Highs will hit the low to mid 30s, with a mix of sun and clouds. The cold air mass will remain in place until next weekend.

All eyes are fixed our next winter storm system set to arrive monday which we declared a First alarm weather day. That storm will arrive here in the early hours of Monday morning and will continue into Monday evening.

This won’t be a major snowstorm by any means, but some areas could see some decent snow totals. The latest forecast model runs largely agree that this storm will take a southerly track. That would lead to higher totals of snow south of the city, while some areas to the north might see nothing at all. For this area of ​​the country it is quite atypical.

It looks like Ocean County will be the big winner this time around, with a solid 3-6 inches likely there. The county is under one winter weather advisorywhile areas further south are under winter storm warnings.

Central Jersey, including Monmouth County, could see 1-3 inches, while only a trace to 1 inch is forecast in northern New Jersey. The Hudson Valley, Connecticut, as well as eastern Long Island are also expected to see only a trace to 1 inch. Western Long Island may do better with a range of 1-3 inches there.

In New York City, a sharp cutoff between snowfall numbers is very likely. Overall, the city is expected to receive 1-3 inches. The highest totals are likely to be found in Staten Island, along with the southern parts of Brooklyn and Queens. In contrast, the northern Bronx may only get a dusting. As the storm moves out, bitter cold and strong winds move in into Tuesday.
