What is the ‘Eye of Rah’ meme and why is it all over TikTok?

A new meme is making the rounds on TikTok and it has everything to do with “Rah’s eye”…

The meme itself features a picture of TikToker Rashad Bowens (@lilbothemeilbothema) – an aspiring boxer and reaction video poster – with his red dreadlocks, but the image is edited so that he has a single cyclopean eye.

Editing was done by Jeremiah Springfield (@frightenedsheep25937582), who are best known for making similar edits that give people a leg up.

In a TikTok where a man played a cooking video of a man salting a cucumber, Rashad stitches the clip and tells the guy “Ay, yo, chill the f*** out” in a dry tone. The following clip of Rashad is then edited, showing a singular eye located in the center of his head.

The original video dates back to December 2022, but the edited version started making the rounds last November.

The Meaning of ‘Eye Of Rah’

The meme refers to the “Eye of Ra” symbol, which according to Study.comsymbolizes “power, fury and violence”, as Ra is the Egyptian sun god, and the eye of Ra symbolizes the revenge of Ra’s daughter on mankind.

This recent meme is linked to the “Curse of Ra” meme from last year that made the rounds online.

As the meme has become more popular over time, the edits have become more surreal with burning effects, lightning and compilation edits.

Most recently, the “Eye of Rah” meme has merged with other “brain rot” viral trends such as “I Bought a Property in Egypt” and “Chopped Chin,” as a TikTok creator @.bob911_, combined all three into one video, which went viral with 2.4 million views.

Elsewhere, ‘What a strange thing to say’ TikTok audio explained and “I’ve played these games before,” explained the Squid Game meme.
