Montgomery County parents react to third snow day in a row

Many school districts across the region have decided to close Wednesday due to the recent winter weather.

That includes Montgomery County Public Schools. Officials who called Tuesday afternoon shortly before 4 p.m

“We just heard that school was canceled for the third day. Yes,” said MCPS mom Anneceline Maurice, before adding, “we were a little stunned and didn’t know what to do.”

In one declarationMCPS said that while progress is being made, “snow levels and persistently cold temperatures are impacting our ability to clear school grounds, parking lots and walkways of snow and ice.”

“I think they need to keep the schools safe,” said father Chris Warshaw. “So if they can’t open the school safely, then I’m glad they’re not opening them, but I wish we could open the schools safely.”

Added mother Elise Beretz, “safety first, for sure, but maybe things could have been done faster.”

While parent after parent sounded the same way early Tuesday night, most students of course sounded more like 7-year-old Alexia.

“I love it,” Alexia told FOX 5 on the third day of snow in a row. “I want to throw snowballs at my sister.”
