Texas Lottery machines now require ID scans

The Texas Lottery Commission has implemented a new policy requiring players to scan their state-issued photo ID before purchasing lottery tickets from self-service machines, according to a KXAN report. This change is intended to prevent purchases by minors and ensure compliance with state regulations.

The age verification process involves scanning the barcode on the back of the ID. Although no personal data is collected or stored, players may encounter problems scanning older IDs or those with damaged barcodes.

Dealers are responsible for enforcing this policy and may be penalized for selling lottery tickets to minors.
