Mike Pence, Al Gore reunite at Carter funeral: How the VPs were connected

ONE memorial service for President Jimmy Carter has reunited all five living presidents Thursday in Washington DC, as well as two former vice presidents who had a heartfelt moment last summer.

Funeral for Carterwho died at 100 last Sunday, began Saturday with a procession in his hometown of Plains, Georgia. Thursday’s ceremony at the US Capitol will continue with a motorcade to the Washington National Cathedral for a service before Carter returns to the Plains for a private service.

Former Vice President Mike Pence, who attended Carter’s funeral, sat between his wife, Karen, and former second-in-line Al Gore.

According to one latest report from Politicothe two men shared a moment last summer, with Pence crediting his Democratic predecessor with giving him a guide to follow.

Pence rejected calls from violent rioters and members of his own party to overturn the 2020 presidential election on January 6, 2021, inspired in part by Gore’s role 20 years before he certified his own loss to President George W. Bush.

“I’ve never forgotten it,” Pence told Gore.

“You don’t know how much it means,” Gore is said to have replied.
