Premiere on CBS Hollywood Squares has been pushed due to LA fires

The fires sweeping through Los Angeles ware forcing a major change to CBS’s primetime schedule.

The broadcast network was to premiere a reboot of the game how Hollywood Squares on Thursday night, but has decided to push the premiere to next Thursday, January 16.

The game show features celebrities sitting in an oversized tic-tac-toe board filled with light-hearted banter with the contestants. The tenor of the show was seen as tonally inappropriate given the devastation in parts of LA County. In addition, the CBS stations in and around LA have been in rolling coverage of the fires.

The new version of Hollywood Squares is hosted by CBS Morning co-anchor Nate Burleson, with Drew Barrymore serving as the central square, along with other celebrity panelists. The CBS morning show previewed the premiere Thursday, suggesting the decision to push the premiere was made after the morning show aired this morning.

Hollywood Squares is the first primetime series affected by the fires. Footage of late night shows as Jimmy Kimmel Live! and After midnight had closed down on Wednesday.

Instead of Hollywood Squares premiere, CBS will run rebroadcasts of George and Mandy’s first marriage at 20, and Ghosts at 8:30 p.m
