2025 NFL Draft: New York Giants lose option on quarterback

The New York Giants are in dire straits at the quarterback position, and they need every option open they can get as they try to fix the situation.

They lost a potential opportunity Thursday afternoon when Georgia quarterback Carson Beck entered the transfer portal and opted out of 2025 NFL Draft.

Highly regarded for his overall accuracy and winning ways at Georgia, Beck led the SEC in attempts, completions and yards in 2023. Likewise, Beck has the prototypical build for an NFL quarterback at 6-foot-4, 220 pounds. Beck was a popular pick for the Giants in early (or way too early) mock drafts after the 2024 NFL Draft thanks to those attributes.

He didn’t make the expected move in 2024, and his draft stock dropped as he struggled throughout the season. His season was then ended with a UCL injury in the SEC championship that required surgery.

Miami, Texas A&Mand Ohio State are mentioned as likely landing spots for Beck.

Entering the transfer window is likely the best opportunity for Beck to repair his draft stock after a disappointing 2024 season. He had gone from a likely high first-round pick to a likely Day 2 pick, at best.

That said, Beck had a trio of promising performances at the end of the year, and there was hope that things might finally have been clicked at the end of the year. The Giants made a concerted effort to scout Beck in 2024, and his return to school is probably the best decision for him, but also narrows the Giants’ potential options for the quarterback of the future.
