The Pulse of Today, The Insight for Tomorrow

A big winter storm is expected on Friday

A big winter storm is expected on Friday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A very impactful winter storm will hit Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky on Friday.

FIRST SEVERE WEATHER DAY – FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT

Snow is likely to start in western Middle Tennessee before sunrise on Friday, between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m., and then spread east across the rest of the Midstate through the morning. Snow will start in Nashville and along I-65 between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. and east of I-65 on the Cumberland Plateau between 06.00 and 08.00

Steady snow will continue through the afternoon, with heavy bands of snow possible in parts of the Midstate. One thing we are seeing is the chance for a little mixing in southern Middle Tennessee which could affect the amount of snowfall in those areas.

Expect road conditions to deteriorate quickly, and flights in and out of Nashville International Airport will also be affected.

The snow will gradually taper off from west to east Friday night.

Total snowfall accumulations will be in the 4″ to 6″ range for most of Middle Tennessee. There may be a little more snow accumulation in southern Middle Tennessee, but keep in mind that we’re keeping an eye on the chance for some mixing in those areas, so that could affect snow totals as well.

TODAY

It’s a cold start to our day and it will remain cold this afternoon with temperatures in the lower to mid 30s. The important thing is that the weather remains calm today with just a mix of clouds and sunshine as we prepare for our winter storm tomorrow.

THIS WEEKEND:

Treacherous roads continue Saturday. The temperatures barely get above freezing. There is likely to be some improvement on the roads Saturday afternoon, mainly where they were pre-treated and then shoveled/ploughed.

Sunday will be brighter and slightly warmer during the afternoon. Low, 20. High, 38.

NEXT WEEK:

Monday through Wednesday next week will all remain unseasonably cool. Expect lows in the 20s and highs in the 30s.

There will be a chance of isolated showers on Wednesday.

Much milder weather is likely on Thursday and Friday next week.
