MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Winter weather is moving into the region on Friday with hazardous travel inland.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY has been issued for Robeson, Marlboro, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Marion, Williamsburg and Northern Horry Counties.
This includes the towns of Green Sea, Loris, Hartsville,
Marion, Bennettsville, McColl,, Mullins, Lumberton, Dillon, Elizabethtown,
Kingstree, Florence, Aynor, North Hartsville, Whiteville and
Darlington.

FIRST ALARM WEATHER DAY FRIDAY NIGHT TO SATURDAY

A storm system moving through the Deep South will spread moisture across the Carolinas on Friday, resulting in wintry weather breaking through the afternoon and evening and continuing into Friday night.

Friday will start cold and dry with clouds thickening during the morning. By early to mid-afternoon, areas of sleet will likely develop with sleet and showers likely inland.

As the afternoon progresses, a cold rain develops near the beaches, but sleet and areas of freezing rain will develop inland as temperatures drop to around freezing. Cold ground and road temperatures mean that even small amounts of sleet and freezing rain can quickly lead to icy roads.

Near the beaches, temperatures will warm into the mid and upper 30s Friday night, leaving just a generally cold rain. Temperatures inland will hover near freezing most of the night with areas of mostly light frost.

All precipitation will end by dawn on Saturday.

SNOW ACCUMULATION

Snow accumulations will be minimal for areas north and west of I-95. Light snow and sleet at the start of the storm could lead to some areas picking up a dusting of up to half an inch. Although not much, the cold ground and road surface means that icy patches can quickly develop when the rainfall starts.

ISAACUMULATION

Sleet transitions to freezing rain inland from the beaches on Friday night. Most of the freezing rain will be light, and a major ice storm is not expected. Ice accumulations in interior Horry County will likely be just a glaze. Across parts of the Pee Dee, one-tenth to two-tenths of an inch of ice will be possible.
