Jamie Lee Curtis’ ‘Incredible’ donation to LA Wildfire Relief sparks debate

Jamie Lee Curtis’ The decision to donate to wildfire efforts amid the ongoing Palisades and Eaton fires in Southern California has left many fans wondering why the gesture hasn’t resonated on a wider scale in the Hollywood community.

Oscar winner announced on Instagram on Thursday, Jan. 9, that she and her family will donate $1 million from their Family Foundation “to start an endowment fund for our great city and state and the great people who live and love there.”

Curtis added that she is already in contact with California Gov. Gavin NewsomMayor of Los Angeles Karen Bass and minority leader in the US Senate Chuck Schumer to begin figuring out “where these funds need to be directed to have the greatest impact.”

Many fans applauded Cool Friday actress’ efforts on Instagram, with one calling her “a bright light,” while others called her “a beautiful person” and “a leader for good.” Some celebrities also praised Curtis’ gesture, including Rufus Wainwright writes: “This is amazing Jamie!!!” while supermodel Paulina Porizkova used emojis in his comment: “.”

“Thanks not only for the $ but even more for your example ,” commented one Instagram user.

“Jamie is one of the most decent people in Hollywood in so many ways,” another Instagram user wrote.

“You’re really going for a ride,” one fan shared Halloween actress before adding: “I am inspired by your grace and service. Thank you.”

Others began to wonder why “every” other celebrity hadn’t announced their own wildfire donations.

“Now imagine if every wealthy celeb in LA did this.

One Instagram user called out a few tech giants by name when they suggested donating “some of their financial stash.” Another fan praised Curtis for “being a rock star” before urging: “Now to start a tag, you’re it campaign with your celebrity friends!”

After initially worrying that her own home might burn in the Palisades fire that ignited Tuesday, Jan. 7, in Los Angeles’ Pacific Palisades neighborhood, Curtis said her home had survived. But several of her friends’ homes did not make it, as she explained along the way a scheduled appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Wednesday, January 8.

“It’s literally where I live — everything,” Curtis said of the “really horrible situation” while speaking to the host Jimmy Fallon. “The market I shop at, the schools my kids go to, friends — many, many, many, many, many friends have now lost their homes.”

Thousands of people were forced to evacuate this week as wildfires tore through parts of Los Angeles. Several actors and musicians, including Mandy Moore, Billy Crystal and Brad Paisleyhave revealed that the fires damaged or destroyed their homes.

From 1:30 p.m. local time Thursday, at Palisades Fire had burned more than 17,200 acres and was 0 percent contained while the Eaton Fire had burned 10,600 acres and was also 0 percent contained, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire).
