Penn State QB Drew Allar didn’t have a great game during their Orange Bowl matchup against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. As a quarterback, his decisions on the field have a profound impact on their team’s success. Unfortunately, Allar made a few bad calls, including a late interception that gave the Fighting Irish a 27-24 win in the CFP semifinals.

The one interception that counted proved to be the most costly for the Penn State Nittany Lions. With over 40 seconds left, Allar made a poor decision under pressure and threw the ball to a Notre Dame player.

This led to Marcus Freeman’s team taking advantage and getting into field goal range. It was capped off by a 41-yard FG by Mitch Jeter that ultimately won them the semifinal.

In the postgame press conference, the quarterback took responsibility for his mistake. He stated that he made a bad call and failed to execute the play that led to the Nittany Lions being eliminated from the great championship run this season.

“I went through my progression,” Allar told reporters. “Just tried to (throw) it at his feet. Should have thrown it away. Didn’t get to execute what I was trying to do… I’m going to do everything in my power to grow from it.”

Drew Allar can declare for the 2025 NFL Draft despite having one more year left. It will be interesting to see if he decides to come back for another season and redeem himself or move on and focus on his pro career in the NFL.
