‘Will Trent’ Casts Kyrie McAlpin in Season 3 Recurring Role

EXCLUSIVE: Kyrie McAlpin (Birdie, Cheaper By The Dozen) has joined ABC’s cast Will Trent for season 3 in a recurring role. New episodes air on Tuesdays on ABC and stream the next day on Hulu.

She debuts in tonight’s episode as Sunny, a smart and resourceful tween who finds herself in the unusual position of being the daughter of a criminal who now finds herself in the care of the Deputy Director of the GBI.

Based on Karin Slaughter’s New York Times bestselling “Will Trent” series, Special Agent Will Trent (Ramón Rodriguez) of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was abandoned at birth and endured a tough coming of age in Atlanta’s overwhelmed foster care system. Now he uses his unique point of view in the pursuit of justice and has the highest approval rating in the GBI.

Season 3 also stars Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski, Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell, Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood, with Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner, and newcomer Gina Rodriguez as Marion Alba. Scott Foley is new this season in the role of Dr. Seth McDale, the confident and down-to-earth chief of emergency medicine at a local hospital and Angie’s new romantic interest.

Executive producers include Liz Heldens, Daniel Thomsen, Karin Slaughter, Oly Obst, Howard Deutch, Ellen Marie Blum and Ramón Rodriguez. Heldens and Thomsen also act as showrunners. Will Trent is produced by 20th Television.

McAlpin most recently starred in the BET+ movie Blackjack Christmas as Marsha Matthews and starring as Adeline Bellamy in the feature film Birdiedirected by Gregory Allen Williams. In 2022, she was nominated for “Outstanding Younger Voice Performer in an Animated or Preschool Animated Program” at the Children’s & Family Emmy Awards for her role as Emma in the Apple TV+ series, Doug pulls the plug. For her performance in Birdieshe won the audience award at Deadcenter Film Festival 2020.
