Emma Raducanu’s next opponent hits back at savage trolls over ‘giant breasts’ ahead of Australia Open showdown

On Thursday, Emma Raducanu will meet close friend Amanda Anisimova in the second round of the Australian Open.

The fight comes after Anisimova successfully progressed through her opening round against Maria Lourdes Carle.

The two players have developed a strong friendship off the court in recent years, with Raducanu noting that they typically avoid tennis talk during their social interactions.

“Usually when we hang out, we don’t talk about tennis. I think it’s good to keep it that way,” Raducanu said.

“I think we will play each other many more times in the future.”

Anisimova has previously made headlines for her forceful response to social media trolls commenting on her physique.

After posting a mirror selfie on Instagram, she received critical messages about her body, with one troll describing her as “the most unathletic body ever, narrow shoulders and gigantic breasts.”

The 23-year-old responded with a simple “thank you” and a kiss emoji.

She later posted a photo of herself kissing with the caption: “But enjoy your life, I’ll enjoy mine.”

“The number of people who comment on my body every day on social media… will never understand what the hyper-fixation is all about,” she added.

Anisimova has already proven herself on tennis’ biggest stages, reaching the French Open semi-finals in 2019 aged just 17.

Her success at the Australian Open has also been notable with a memorable win over Naomi Osaka en route to the fourth round in 2022.

The American player has demonstrated his ability to compete at the highest level from an early age.

She will look to add another important win to her record when she meets Raducanu in their second round.

Raducanu acknowledged the importance of their upcoming match and noted Anisimova’s recent challenges.

“I think she’s a tough opponent. She obviously took some time out from the tour for mental health reasons and just to find herself again,” Raducanu said.

Anisimova reflected on her journey: “I think performing well at a young age definitely comes with its benefits and also some challenges.”

“There are a lot of lessons that I had to learn. You grow up fast, but at the same time I feel like it really prepares you for your career. We both have so much ahead of us.”

Anisimova’s early exposure to high-pressure situations has shaped her approach to major tournaments.

“I feel like when I play these Slams, I handle the nerves better because I’ve been on so many big stages at a young age,” she explained.

The American has a positive view of his early career experiences.

“I wouldn’t trade all the memories I had from when I was younger,” Anisimova reflected.
