Former Patriots QB performs action movie helicopter stunt on reality show

Cam Newton has not played in the NFL since the 2021 season. But he certainly still has his elite athleticism.

The former Patriots quarterback was filmed performing an action movie-level stunt during his appearance on the FOX reality show “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.”

In a clip that went viral on social mediaNewton was filmed jumping from a speedboat to a helicopter hovering nearby.

Newton can be seen jumping from the boat and grabbing onto the helicopter’s landing gear. At first, Newton only got a handle on the skid. However, he managed to pull himself up onto the sleds and into the helicopter – just like you would see in an action movie. You can watch the clip here.

The stunt impressed Newton’s fellow contestants.

“See that? He pushed himself up — on a helicopter,” actor Steven Baldwin said.

Newton celebrated his magnificent stunt with a celebratory scream while in the helicopter. That got him scolded by one of the show’s “Special Forces” advisers.

So what the heck was going on? According to Vibewere the show’s contestants in Wales to receive training in “the harsh realities of sea warfare.”

Newton is one of 16 contestants in the third season of “Special Forces”. Other participants include Olympic swimmer Nathan Adrian, Olympic track and field star Marion Jones, former NFL receiver Golden Tate, former football player Landon Donovan and “The Hills” star Brody Jenner.

Three episodes in, three contestants have left the show, including Baldwin and actress Denise Richards.

Newton played 11 seasons in the NFL, 10 of which came with the Carolina Panthers. The 2015 NFL MVP was known as one of the league’s best dual-threat quarterbacks, threatening defenses as a passer and runner.

Newton played the 2020 season in New England and became the team’s starting quarterback after the departure of Tom Brady. He spent one season with the Patriots, losing to then-rookie Mac Jones, before returning to Carolina for one final season in 2021. Newton now works as an analyst for ESPN and hosts his own podcast, “4th&1 with Cam Newton.”
