Zakai Zeigler sets Tennessee basketball steals record with 213, passes Santiago Vescovi

Zakai Zeigler set Tennessee basketball record for career steals Wednesday against Georgia.

The Vols guard passed Santiago Vescovi as he stole an inbounds pass early in the second half for his 213th steal at Tennessee.

Zeigler tied Vincent Yarbrough, who played at UT from 1998-2002, with 211 career steals with a pair of steals in the first half against Georgia. He matched Vescovi with a steal at the 16:54 mark, then passed it at the 15:55 mark.

Vescovi set the program record for five seasons from 2019-24, though his first season in 2019 was half a season when he joined the Vols midseason.

Zeigler entered the season with 181 steals in his first three seasons. He had 60 as a freshman, 59 as a sophomore and a career-high 62 as a junior. He has been named to the SEC All-Defensive team in all three seasons.

The Long Island, New York, native was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year for the 2023-24 season.
