Warriors hold on for much-needed win against Timberwolves

Before closing the chapter on a four-game road streak, Golden State Warriors had a stop in Minnesota for a contest against the Timberwolves on Wednesday night. With the chance to end their road swing on a high note, the Warriors got the Timberwolves going to start the game, burning a flurry of 3-pointers en route to a double-digit lead in the opening quarter.

The Warriors drilled eight 3-pointers in the opening frame to jump out to a 34-12 lead over the Timberwolves through the first 12 minutes. Despite leading by 22 points in the first quarter, the game was far from over.

After struggling to close throughout the season, the Warriors’ late game woes crept up in the second half against the Timberwolves. Behind Anthony Edwards and former Warrior Donte DiVincenzo, the Timberwolves roared back into the game.

With a minute left, the Timberwolves tied the game on a pair of Naz Reid free throws. After the Timberwolves tied the game, Steph Curry came to the rescue in heroic fashion.

With 47 seconds left, Curry buried a 3-pointer to give the Warriors a three-point lead. Tough defense and free throws from Curry, Andrew Wiggins and Gary Payton II helped the Warriors secure a much-needed victory in Minnesota, 116-115.

Curry led the Warriors with a game-high 31 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the field with seven 3-pointers to go along with eight assists in 37 minutes. Edwards and DiVincenzo each had 28 points, but it wasn’t enough to pull off the comeback against the Warriors.

After a 2-2 road swing, the Warriors will have two days off before returning home to the Chase Center on Saturday for a contest against Jordan Poole and the Washington Wizards.
