Nintendo reveals the Switch 2 console coming this year

Nintendo teased the Switch replacement on Thursday morning.

The company released a teaser trailer offering a first look at the new consolethe Switch 2. Although similar to the original device, the Switch 2 appears to be larger with a new kickstand and a rounder, slimmer design. The Joy-Cons, which have also been updated, will still be detachable for docked or portable play.

The new console will have exclusive games – both physical and digital – and will be backwards compatible with the original Switch.

The specific release date for the Switch 2 has yet to be announced, but the company has said it will arrive in 2025.

Nintendo said more details will be shared at the Switch 2-focused Direct on April 2.

The original Nintendo Switch, first released in 2017, is one of the best-selling game consoles globally, with more than 143 million units sold by October 2024.
