Former New York Rep. Lee Zeldin will appear before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on Thursday for his confirmation hearing to be the next administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.

A longtime ally of President-elect Donald Trump, Zeldin promised on social media to “restore American energy dominance, revitalize our auto industry to bring back American jobs and make the US the global leader in artificial intelligence” after being nominated for the Cabinet-level post.

During his first two years in the House of Representatives, Zeldin served on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and its Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials. He left Congress in January 2023 and was among a group of Republican lawmakers who voted against certifying the results of the 2020 presidential election.
