David Lynch, film giant who specialized in the surreal, dies at the age of 78

David Lynch, the master filmmaker who enchanted audiences with surreal, dreamlike dramas like “The Elephant Man,” “Blue Velvet” and “Mulholland Drive,” has died. He was 78.

Lynch’s family confirmed his death in a post on his official Facebook page.

“It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the death of the man and artist David Lynch,” the post said. “We would appreciate some privacy at this time.”

“There’s a big hole in the world now that he’s no longer with us,” Lynch’s family said. “But, as he would say, ‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ It’s a beautiful day with golden sunshine and blue skies all the way.”
