In the first season, Mark revealed a shocking connection between his work and personal life: his supposedly deceased wife, Gemma (Dichen Lachman), is actually alive, and her severed self is a Wellness Counselor at Lumon. The finale also revealed that Helly (Britt Lower) is an Eagan, a member of Lumon’s founding family. Kier Eagan established the company, and Helly, known as Helena outside of her “disconnected” state, is the daughter of Lumon’s current CEO, Jame Eagan (Michael Siberry).

Resignation earned 14 nominations at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards in 2022, including Outstanding Drama Series and acting nods for Adam Scott, Britt Lower, Christopher Walken and Patricia Arquette. The series ultimately won Outstanding Music Composition for a Series and Outstanding Main Title Design. Ben Stiller serves as director and executive producer.
