Rams linebacker who grew up near Philadelphia: ‘I hate Eagles fans’

Rams linebacker Jared Verse is set for a playoff home run this weekend.

But don’t expect him to get a warm welcome from the City of Brotherly Love.

Verse, who was born in Dayton but grew up in Berwick, Pennsylvania, less than 2.5 hours northwest of Philadelphia, didn’t hold back when he described Eagles fans in the lead-up to Los Angeles’ division game against the Eagles on Sunday.

“I hate Eagles fans,” Vers told the Los Angeles Times. “They’re so annoying. I hate Eagles fans…When I see the green and white, I hate it. I actually get upset. Like I actually get hot.”

Verse didn’t say how his hatred for the Eagles went back, but noted that it was reinforced when the Eagles played the Rams at SoFi Stadium in November. He said Philly fans yelled obscenities so loud he could hear them even though he had headphones on.

“I didn’t even do anything to them,” he told the newspaper. “It was my first time playing. Oh, I hate Eagles fans.”

Verse, a 2024 first-round pick out of Florida State, made a huge play in last week’s wild card win against Minnesota, scooping up a fumble by quarterback Sam Darnold and returning it 57 yards for a touchdown.

He has 36 solo tackles, 4.5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles this season.

His return to Eastern Pennsylvania is unlikely to do anything to repair his perception among Eagles fans.

Based on his comments, he might want to turn up the volume on those headphones when he walks into Lincoln Financial Field.

Kickoff between the Rams and Eagles is scheduled for 3 p.m. The match can be seen on FOX.
