Jammu and Kashmir govt launches RTI portal for citizens, says CM Omar Abdullah, ‘better late than never’ – India News

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday launched an online portal for submitting, tracking and receiving responses to Right to Information (RTI) requests, allowing citizens to complete the entire process electronically without visiting government offices.

The RTI portal operated by the General Administration Department (GAD) has been set up to facilitate smooth completion of the RTI process. The respective departments throughout the region now handle the applications submitted under the Right to Information Act.

Chief Minister Abdullah posted on Facebook that he was excited about the launch, saying, “In a case of better late than never, the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir have finally got their own RTI portal.” He stressed that the platform would be more efficient and user-friendly for citizens, allowing them to submit requests, check their status and receive responses completely online.

Abdullah further emphasized that this digital shift would not only improve transparency but also promote greater accountability and governance in the region.

GAD is the central agency responsible for overseeing the RTI portal, while various departments will handle the applications received through this portal. Complaints of non-receipt of RTI or due to delay shall be dealt with by Nodal Officers of the department whose contact details are available on the portal.

Citizens can file RTI applications and complaints to government agencies listed on the RTI Online portal. If a public authority is not listed, applicants are advised to submit their RTI requests in physical form directly to those authorities.
